Jerusalem of Snow
04:12
|
|||
How could you send your child off to whoa
Jerusalem of snow?
What will you do with all that tarnished gold
Jerusalem of snow?
When you go, when you go,
When you go back to your home...
How could you just sit around collecting all them lows,
America of old?
Your baseball cards just rot away into mold,
America of old...
Is it gold, is it gold?
Is it gold that you're owed in your home?

When I met you
You were the daughter of the Sunny Isles,
So sweet and easy on the eyes,
But you left it when you took them clouds and rode up north,
Off to art school, where you got your dollar's worth.
Never ever been a babe alive
Who didn't wanna be their mama's child
No you will never love another like your mother
There is no other for you
And when you talk about living aloud
How come you sing it from a higher cloud?
Daughter of the silver light, you daughter of the silver light,
You daughter of the silver light
O darlin', you runnin' but you don't know where
Exercising that cold, stoic stare
But you faked it in the morning when you rode to me
With your lipstick, crashing on the ecstasy
Never ever been a babe alive
Who didn't wanna be their mama's child
No you will never love another like your mother
There is no other for you
And when you talk about living a lie
With your soles pointed up at the sky
You know my darling of the silver light, you daughter of the silver light,
You daughter of the silver light

Otters
02:48
|
|||
On our first trip to Metro Zoo
The otters swam down slippery rocks
Going with the current's flow
Under the footbridge we were standing on
And you wanted a wax otter statue
But the machine ate your money up
So you settled on monkeys instead
And if memory serves, an elephant
When we are lying in the water
It almost feels like we're just two otters
That's all I want for us once I collect myself
When we are lying in the water
It almost feels like we're just two otters
That is all I really want for us
On our second trip to Metro Zoo
We went with Grandpa Eddie, the niece and the nephew
Two otters were lying in a pile
And I didn't even check the wax toy machine
My niece and nephew were being brats
So I dropped the, "Uncles only have fun" line
But it made me laugh to myself to see
The otters exhausted as you and I
On that hot tub vista in Vermont
I saw a river in the distance while you rested on me
And wondered if down the mountainside
Two otter friends were playing
When we are lying in the water
It almost feels like we're just two otters
That's all I want for us once I collect myself
When we are lying in the water
It almost feels like we're just two otters
That is all I really want for us
There is not a single mangrove swamp
I would not paddle through with you
And if the alligators came
To lunch upon our old canoe
We might remember older lives
With slicked back fur from river rides
Holding hands as we float downstream
Merrily, merrily
On that hot tub vista in Vermont
I saw a river in the distance while you rested on me
And wondered if down the mountainside
Two otter friends were playing

The Sage's Sickness
02:52
|
|||
Thinking about what Lao Tzu said
I try to heal my heavy head
You only want a deeper man
So you can feel him good as sin
The sage's sickness is feeling sick
Her world is but a magic trick
Perhaps it's petty still to think
Your well of pain's too deep to drink
Your well of pain's too deep to drink
And I am barely listening
So speak up now, and don't be shy
You who echo in eternity
That $2 tambourine, the $2 tambrouine
It used to light up for me
In that country bar in Alphabet City x 2
And when I was a child of Qi
Yeah, when I was a child of Qi
I owned every word that came from me
Like "How do you do" and "Dang, you look pretty"
But that $2 tambourine, the $2 tambourine
It used to light up for me
When I bought it on the ecstasy
Thinking about what Lao Tzu said
I try to heal my heavy head
You only want a deeper man
So you can feel him good as sin

Cubensis Blues
04:14
|
|||
Took it as a sign
That I could be unkind
Sweetness undefined might as well be a crime
Like dying by design
Living in cut-time
Don't sanctify your rhymes
Speaking from a distance cross the street is listless
I guess I'm doing fine
And what was happening
O, what was happening
When songbirds couldn't sing
And dreamers ceased to dream
O, what was happening
Take it as a sign
When lovin' leave you blind
It's time at last to question
What is dark invention
And what is really light
And what was happening
O, what was happening
When songbirds couldn't sing
And dreamers ceased to dream
O, what was happening anyway
Caught the cubensis blues
From living in a cube
And when they left me rude
A child and a dude
I tried to push on through
To the morning with you
And what was happening
O, what was happening
When songbirds couldn't sing
And dreamers ceased to dream
O, what was happening anyway

You and your sadness grew
From sobbing to bawling
What a measly follow through
Expectation appalling
Do you look at me and frown
You creature from a higher cloud
When I looked up you only rained down
Like precipitation on the ground
Honey, you could never stick around
Clouds of evening don't throw shade
They steal the moon and save our ways
They steal the moon and save our ways
And I tell you earnestly
I'll float until the day begets me
I'll float until the day begets me
Do you look at me and frown
You creature from a higher cloud
When I looked up you only rained down
So I put it in my pocket and I carried it around
You creature from a higher cloud

The Clearing
05:28
|
|||
When I fled from the city
I was all by myself
And I met a slick serpent
It robbed me of myself
There I was, there I was
Just a ramblin' bum
To find out, sho nuff
I was stealin' me some
O the river was deep
And the water was wide
And the precious young bride brought her bridegroom inside
There they was, there they was
By the bed in the mude
Just to find, sho nuff
All was filled up with love
And I sang
When I came to the clearing
I had regained my wealth
But what good is great fortune
Once you sit with yourself?
Lazy love, lazy love
Are you meeting me there?
Just to find, sho nuff
You were barely aware

By The Sea
03:28
|
|||
Genevieve don't talk to me
She's just laying in her hammock
Counting her prayers and trying to get complete
Jezebel, I wish you well
All them books about hell have convinced me you are real
And as I run the sun
Into the 21st Century
Do people like you still exist to me?
When I'm drunk and by the sea,
When I'm drunk and by the sea
Genevieve, oh please just leaave
For all them patterns and those truths
They are hardly enough for me to hold onto
Jezebel in that old hotel
You know we wish you well
But pretty soon it will be time to go
You will be just like one of them dudes
With the tracheall tubes
They would show real high up on the TV screen
When I was in middle school
And all the kids who smoked were hopelessly cool
But we were cool, too
Yeah we were cool too

The Ladybug
03:26
|
|||
And when the fuzzer climbed the chip bag I'd profaned the park with
I knew it was only because you were there beside me
One summer later you would save a ladybug from drowning
She dried her wings on your fingers and then flew away
Your earthen energy's complete
I see it in the leaves
In Far Rockaway seas
All encompasing
And Hannah, if they need your whole day
Or ship you up the Metro North
And tell you what your art is worth
Just say, "no way, no way."
Those fuzzers must say things you can't translate for me
Like how to be a bug in a city
But we're still warbling in esoteric tongues
And trying to figure out
What they have to say
What they have to say
What they have to say
At least I think so
What they have to say
What they have to say
What they have to say
I must learn
What they have to say
What they have to say
What they have to say
Before my time has gone bed
