about

"Nepotism" was recorded at Sans Serif Recording in New Haven, CT from 2020 to 2021 and marks Justin's first time recording his own compositions in a studio.

The set begins with a cowhand singing about mortality following the untimely death of John Prine.

The second tune is a love song for a corgi, challenging the assumption that comparing one's partner to a dog need be degrading and dehumanizing.

The third song channels Neil & Crazy Horse in the limbo of undecided election results, an attempt by Justin to "write a poor man's version of 'Keep on Rockin' in the Free World' that would never be ironically played at a GOP rally."

The EP closes with a lament for a character known affectionately by Justin's friends as The Blue Hen.

"O Blue Hen" is the oldest song that appears on "Nepotism," and was written in 2012. "The Corgi" was written in 2017. "No Golden Thread" and "Baby Head" were written in 2020 amid the COVID-19 outbreak and November election, respectively.
